Terms of Service
Effective Date: March 11, 2026
Last Updated: October 15, 2026
Welcome to DistilBook ("we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the DistilBook platform, including our website, applications, and services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not access or use the Service.
2. Description of Service
DistilBook is an AI-powered learning platform that transforms textbooks into engaging video courses. The Service includes:
- AI-generated whiteboard-style video courses based on textbook content
- Instant doubt clarification and interactive tutoring
- Progress tracking and course management
- Access to a library of courses across multiple subjects
3. User Accounts
3.1 Registration
To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete registration information
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
- Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
3.2 Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have parental or guardian consent. You must be 18 or older to use voice cloning (Section 5.5).
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
- Copy, reproduce, or distribute content without authorization
- Use automated systems to access the Service without permission
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Upload malicious code or content
- Clone, imitate, or impersonate another person's voice, or submit a voice recording of anyone other than yourself
- Submit a voice recording of anyone under 18
- Use any AI voice, including your cloned voice, to deceive, defraud, harass, or mislead people, or to impersonate a public figure, political candidate, or official
- Use AI voices to create fake evidence or testimony, or to get around voice verification or other security checks
- Remove or hide watermarks, metadata, or other markers that show content was generated by AI
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 Our Platform
The Service itself, including its software, design, templates, styles, logos, and the content we publish on our website, is owned by DistilBook or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the Service without our express written consent. This section does not cover the videos you create, which are addressed in Section 5.4.
5.2 Textbook Content
The video courses are generated from publicly available and licensed textbook content. Original textbook content remains the property of its respective authors and publishers.
5.3 User Content
You retain ownership of any content you submit through the Service (e.g., questions, feedback). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and process it in connection with the Service.
5.4 Videos You Create
You own the videos, narration scripts, images, and other outputs you generate with the Service ("Outputs"). You may use your Outputs for any lawful purpose, including commercial use: you may sell them, include them in paid courses, training programs, and learning platforms, publish them on any website or platform, and use them in marketing. No attribution to DistilBook is required and no royalties are owed.
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to the material you upload (documents, scripts, images, and logos) and for how you use your Outputs. Because the Service uses AI, similar outputs may be produced for other users, and your ownership does not extend to those. We use your Outputs only to provide and support the Service, and we do not publish them unless you choose to share them.
5.5 Voice Cloning
Voice cloning lets you create an AI version of your own voice ("Cloned Voice") from a recording you make, and use it to narrate your videos.
Eligibility. Voice cloning is available on the Pro and Max plans and with one-time credit packs of $50 or more, subject to the voice limits shown on our pricing page. You must be 18 or older to use it.
Your voice only. You may clone only your own voice. Before you record, you must confirm that the voice is yours and that you consent to it being cloned. You may not submit a recording of anyone else, even with their permission, and you may not try to get around our checks.
Responsible use. You are responsible for everything narrated with your Cloned Voice. You must not use it in any way that breaks Section 4 or the law, and you must disclose that narration is AI-generated wherever the law requires it. Videos narrated with a Cloned Voice may be labelled as AI narration.
ElevenLabs. Voice cloning is provided with our voice provider, ElevenLabs, Inc. ("ElevenLabs"). When you use it:
- You must also follow the ElevenLabs Terms of Service and Prohibited Use Policy, which apply to your use of voice cloning in addition to these Terms
- You grant ElevenLabs and its affiliates and subcontractors a non-exclusive right to process and use your recording, your Cloned Voice, and the text you narrate with it, to provide and support their services
- ElevenLabs is a third-party beneficiary of this Section 5.5 and may enforce it directly
- Neither DistilBook nor you are an agent or partner of ElevenLabs, or in a joint venture with it, and you must not present yourself as one
Plan changes and deletion. If you move to a lower paid plan than the one you created a Cloned Voice on (for example from Max to Pro, or to Basic), that voice is locked: it is kept, but can't be used until you return to that plan or a higher one. If your paid plan ends and your account moves to the free plan, your Cloned Voices are deleted 30 days later unless you return to a paid plan before then. You can delete a Cloned Voice at any time on the My Voices page. How we handle your recording and voice data is described in our Privacy Policy.
Suspension. We may suspend or remove voice cloning, or delete a Cloned Voice, if we reasonably believe it was created or used in breach of these Terms, or if our voice provider requires it. We may also change or discontinue the voice cloning feature. If we discontinue it, we will delete your Cloned Voices.
